The market has been falling for quite a while this year, ending the mad rushes in the earlier bull thrusts. I have not bought any stocks myself, so if I say anything cheerful at this moment, people would deem me being apathetic and even mean-minded. Nevertheless, the lastest incidental performance of the stock market did serve as a live example of irrationality of the common people. China’s present economic development would be another version of irrational affluence, in my opinion, despite the vocal arrogance in the forecast statements made by the officials. The reasons are mainly two-folded. One, the market system will not work properly with too much government interference. The other, most of China’s income still depends on outer demands. Once the Chinese find their income shrinking, they would start saving more and lower their desire for luxurious products. I presume there will be the comeback of a deflation before long. Oh, I am bullshiting…

昨晚在英文台看了一輯紀實片, 內容講及人的思維習慣與從眾行為. 原來很多時候, 我們都不願意獨立思考, 而喜歡跟隨大多數人的選擇. 這種心理特性往往被廣告人, 推銷員利用作為銷售的有力工具. 環觀我們週遭的商品如化妝品, 保健食品等等, 在我們作購買這類產品的決策過程中不多不少都受到其他人的選擇所影響. 在某類產品上作了不適當的選擇對我們的生活損害可能不會太大, 但有些產品如人壽保險, 投資建議等就有可能影響著我們的整個人生. 這類推銷員最懂得利用所謂referral的影響力以促使我們就範, 所以無論你的朋友幾信得過, 學會獨立思考與及多作客觀調查才是購買此類產品或服務的安全法門.

Probing around my way
It isn’t easy for me to get things right for the first time. I know that. However, I am the kind of people who would not give up easily on challenges. That may not be a good trait in personality, because it wastes some precious time or other resources. Sometimes, it may be much better to know when to give up though. It has already taken up more than 15 hours for me to set things right in this blog. I begin to doubt the worthiness of it.

The landscape of Macau has changed a lot recently. It’s great to see some old buildings renovated. However, it saddens me sometimes when I find things around are not so familiar anymore.
